Palm Pre Intro Video — HaveFun

I like this Palm Pre video which appears the first time you turn on the new Palm Pre mobile phone. It's fun, friendly, voice-over-less, and SHINY.

There's a certain 'lightness' to having no voiceover, just music. Could this style of video be used for general introduction videos? Could we do away with voiceovers completely?

It isn't a bad commercial but it makes me wonder who they are marketing to. I thought the iPhone intro with the 1) phone 2) internet device 3) ipod made it very clear why you'd want one and also positioned it as something easy to understand.

The Pre intro video seems to position it as something dreamy and a bit hallucinogenic. I see e-mail, calendar, and web stuff flying by but this video doesn't give me any confidence that it would be easy to use.

My 4 year old can do a decent job of navigating the iPhone. Will the Pre be designed as well? My Palm V back in the day was... If usability is still a value at Palm, this video is not highlighting that aspect.

I guess this is not so much a marketing video (which I also thought it was initially) as an 'introduction to Pre' video, like the 'Welcome!' intro on a Mac.

That makes more sense.
