Great link. It really gives you an idea of how ahead of it's time NeXTSTEP 1.0 was in 1989.

You also get a good feel for the value that each company or project put into aesthetic design - some (not naming any names) obviously considered it an afterthought!

Yeah NeXTSTEP was really a great operating system. By the same token, BeOS looked to be a brilliant system, but Steve Jobs only came with one. Apple has done will to leverage the work done in NeXTSTEP though, which in turn leverages all the work done in UNIX.
